A few temporary closures are in place for maintenance and improvements—here's the latest so you can plan accordingly (always double-check the official NPS site for real-time updates):

Major Entrance Closure – West Entrance (This Week Only)

The West Entrance (near the town of Joshua Tree) is closed for construction from 6:00 AM on Monday, January 12, 2026, through 7:00 AM on Saturday, January 17, 2026.

No entry or exit through the west side during this time, and some nearby trailheads and picnic areas are inaccessible by vehicle. Park Boulevard is closed for about 6 miles from the west entrance to Quail Springs.

Best alternative: Head to the North Entrance in Twentynine Palms—it's wide open, less crowded, and super convenient!

Trail Maintenance and Temporary Closures:

  • Cholla Cactus Garden Trail — Fully closed until late spring 2026 for trail enhancements.

  • 49 Palms Oasis Trail — Closed on weekdays for rain damage repairs; open on weekends only. Full reopening expected in late spring.

  • Oasis of Mara Trail — Partially closed beyond the Oasis due to earlier flooding—enjoy the accessible section!
